Lou Rethelford announces the 2010 Ace Race to be held Sunday, September 19th at Luchessi Park in Petaluma.

Mach 1 2010

Finnion Lake near Placerville.

It’s official! This year the Mach 1 tournament is being relocated to Finnion Lake just outside Placerville. Venue fees were the deciding factor in choosing Finnion over Browns N’ Bows, but the on-site restaurant and campgrounds as well as the presence of 5 courses within 20 miles were also appealing considerations. That the local clubs were so welcoming was just icing on the cake.

The Finnion couse is a fairly new 18 hole course that was opened in 2008. The course circles around the reservoir with water in play on three holes. The front 8 is shorter but more technical while the back is more open and plays longer. Camping is right by the course and the restaurant (Rock Creek Cafe) is at the entrance.

To reach Finnion Lake, take Hwy 193; 10 miles north of Placerville, turn right on Rock Creek Rd. and go 9 miles. Turn left into Rock Creek Cafe and 1st tee. Flyers and on-line registration will be up in a few days. This year’s attendance and payout should be the best yet! We hope to see you there.

Steve Werner Memorial a success.

While we certainly can’t categorize the tournament a huge success, we are encouraged enough to make it an annual event. The tournament went very smoothly and we were done before dark. The tournament was definitely impacted by the fact that the St. Patty’s day tournament, a three day event, was taking place the same weekend. Other factors contributing to the low turnout was the parking limitations and the fact that many players had reservations about driving for a one day tournament. Next year, we are going to make it two days (either three or four rounds). We may also move the date. All in all, a good time was had by all.

Disc Golf Outlaws extends an enthusiastic welcome to our new chapter in Washington State.

Spirit Ridge (near Carnation, Washington) is also hosting their Steve Werner Memorial in conjunction with ours. Carnation is a rural western Washington community of 1,905 residents that is approximately 1.1 square miles in size. It is located along SR-203, a 30-mile drive east of Seattle and 15-minutes east of Redmond. Carnation is the home of Ron and Wendy Werner, Steve’s brother and sister. The Disc Golf Outlaws take great pleasure in partnering with The United Flyers of Sonoma is announcing the first Steve Werner Memorial Tournament. This is a one day non-sanctioned tournament to be held at Steve’s course at Crane Creek on Saturday, March 13th, 2010. The flyer is available here and at the United Flyers site.

Due to the limited parking available at the venue, we ask that you carpool if at all possible. For those who can find a ride, we are trying to arrange a shuttle service from the venue. Contact information is on the flyer for further information on this. Those who will need a ride as well as those willing to offer rides should call one of the contact numbers.

Also, due to the fact that this is a one day tournament and we would like to get started on time, we urge everyone to pre-register, either by mail or via Paypal using the “Online Registration” link. Please note: there is a $2.00 surcharge for using the PayPal service (to cover their handling charges).

will be the 2009 Mach 1 held (once again) at beautiful Browns ‘n Bows. For those of you who have never been to Browns ‘n Bows before, it is located on Marysville Road off California Highway 20 between Marysville and Grass Valley.
